Without approvals from his ministers Emperor Wu of Liang agreed and promised to hand out Hou Jing in return of Xiao Yuanming .

Tempted by this , Emperor Wu sent general Xiao Yuanming to march north to receive the surrender . However , Xiao Yuan-ming was defeated and captured by the armies of the Eastern Wei .
