Methods Statistical analysis of the issues of the Chinese Journal of Hand Surgery from 1995 to 1999 was carried out by using bibliometrics and citation analysis . The average value of article citation and the type of the articles cited were analyzed .

Conclusions Periodicals were the main source of citation in papers of hand surgery . According to Bradfords ' dispersion law of literature , 8 journals were defined as core literature . The Chinese Journal of Hand Surgery was the first among them .
